Lemongrass

Lemongrass Place is a residential facility for Aboriginal men from regional and remote communities (APY lands being the target cohort) who are eligible to reside in the community under a community corrections order.

WHO IS THE PROGRAM FOR

Lemongrass Place is delivered by the Aboriginal Drug & Alcohol Council. With over 30-years experience in the sector, they have worked to address AOD misuse in the community through Aboriginal specific programs.

Lemongrass Place is an initiative that supports Closing the Gap and is intended to reduce Aboriginal over-representation and reoffending. It acknowledges:

  1. The low levels of bail and electronic monitoring granted to Aboriginal men from regional and remote communities.

  2. The lack of appropriate housing options

  3. The need for more employment and training opportunities.

  4. The need for a process to successfully manage return to remote communities.

ELIGIBILITY

The eligibility criteria for participants includes:

  • Participants must be Aboriginal and male;
  • Will return to a regional or remote area;
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to engage in the program; and
  • Be eligible for a community-based order under DCS supervision.

Child Sex Offenders are not permitted at Lemongrass Place
