The Alcohol Education & Rehabilitation Foundation (AER) is committed to further supporting Grantee organisations and Stakeholders through the provision of “Grant Submission and Report Writing” opportunities that directly support the core work of your organisation and your staff. AER is preparing a second series of Grant Submission and Report Writing workshops at various locations around Australia. Please refer to Workshop outline. The one day workshops will provide you and your key staff and managers with an opportunity to build your expertise in applying for and managing of grants with the support of peer organisations. 7th April in Adelaide For further information, please contact Julianne Blanch julianne.blanch@aerf.com.au

The considerable knowledge and experience acquired by the AER since its inception in 2001 will form the basis for developing the workshop material. Other material covered will include practical risk assessment, approaches to formulating grant applications and grant management monitoring and reporting. The workshop will be highly participative with practical case studies developed in conjunction with AER staff and grantee organisations. An important focus is the opportunity to work with others from within the sector and to apply the knowledge and skills in an enjoyable and rewarding atmosphere. Workshop will be held on 7th May in Adelaide. Travel, food and accommodation costs will be met by AER for the duration of the workshop only. Training materials will be provided - including workbooks, checklists and self help guides. Workshops will be held in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Darwin, Hobart and Canberra. AIM To work with Grantee organisations to share knowledge and improve the grant application, grant management, project management and reporting capabilities 2. OBJECTIVES • share AER knowledge and sector expertise in components of grant management • to share insights with participants to better access funding sources for alcohol education and rehabilitation programs • to provide participants with practical tools and techniques to better manage their projects and grant moneys • to encourage innovative practices based upon AER and Sector experience and • to share ideas with other sector organisations and strengthen contacts regionally and nationally 3. CONTENTS: Workshop Agenda • Introduction and Overview • Prepare for Syndicate work: based on case Studies 4. CASE STUDY Depending upon the number of attendees, participants will have the opportunity to play one of the following roles in small teams representing core parts of the grant application, management and reporting processes using examples from AER Grantee organisations as follows: • Grant Writing/Application Development • Grant Contracts • Project Management • Project Reporting and Evaluation • Project Financials Linked to case study e.g. : • Education • Rehabilitation/Treatment • Capital Works/Building Construction • Succession Planning • Capacity building. 5. POST WORKSHOP Program/Project Support: Advice and assistance e.g. through introductions to other Sector organisations, peak bodies, products grant management and evaluation tools and people; and Governance and Finance Workshop Outline and Suggested Contents 1. Aim: To provide an introduction to the effective governance and financial management of not-for-profit organisations; 2. Objectives: At the end of the workshop participants will have: • a comprehensive appreciation of good governance and effective financial management processes and procedures; • practical skills in managing Boards of management and advisory bodies; • tips and techniques for the day to day financial management of their organisations; and • associated training materials and resources including participant workbooks, check lists and self-help guides.
